The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists. XmlException -- '', hexadecimal value 0x11, is an invalid character. Line 1, position Invoke String methodName, Object[] parameters. This error is probably due to the WWW Publishing service being configured to allow interaction with the desktop. To solve this problem, take the following steps:.
At this point you should be able to access the WSUS server from the console again. I came across that post earlier and I had the box cleared for allow service to interact with destop. I ran into this awhile back. Unfortunately, too long ago for me to recall exactly what it was, though I think it was this:.
I also want to say I ran into similar things when the drive that held the WSUS content ran out of space. If Services shows them as started, I would try to manually connect to them to verify.
I did that step for kb before. I have plenty of space in C drive. To my knowledge, there is no logical limit to the number of computers which can be added to the WSUS server. I would seriously doubt that you would be experience a database size problem. My problem was that I ran out of space 0 bytes free. This was back on WSUS 3. In a virtual environment, it is not uncommon to start off small with disks and grow them on the fly when needed.
Just something which would be quick to check and verify was not the source of the problems. What about IIS? And if you are using https, it will be port I can't browse to the selfupdate or reportservice, it's just a strange thing happening, like if I change drop down status from needed to any, I get:. You can clear the entire contents of the MMC directory. It is just cache. However, you should just need to remove the file named "wsus" in the MMC directory. I deleted that file and while I was navigating to every computer group, it crash on me at the last one :.
I suspect there is a problem with one computer group that was crashing on me yesterday also. I can't delete the group has about computers. I did windows server 2012 essentials connector has encountered an unexpected error free your instructions, but how can I delete a computer group and re-add windows server 2012 essentials connector has encountered an unexpected error free again because it seems that wsus crash mainly when I click on that computer group folder.
I would follow advice listed here and here. My thoughts as hinted at a few posts ago are that this server is not 'properly' maintained. There is a lot of information - the vast majority of it is unnecessary, and it is causing bloat and delay. A more non-invasive test would be to create a new computer group. Then, assuming you have your computers targeting WSUS groups via group policy, alter that policy to point them to the new group.
Within a day or twoall computers should be found in the new group. Does the new group exhibit the same problems as the old group? If not, when all computer objects are present in the new group, can you browse the old group, or does it still cause the console to crash?
Of course, if you delete the computer group, and you have targeting enabled, the computer objects will trickle into the unassigned computers container until a new group with the same name is created. Ponder if necessary as it is not a Server systemand fire up WSUS to see if the problem is fixed? I removed wsus roles and add it back and I was able to delete that folder without any issues.
