New Microsoft documentation has revealed a Group policy and Registry tweak that allows you to specify the specific Windows version you wish to stay on and prevent new feature updates from being installed. With Windows 10's May Update, Microsoft introduced the ability to defer all Windows 10 updates, including feature updates, for up to 35 days via the Windows Update settings. Windows 10 Pro and other enterprise versions also had a defer updates feature that lets you block Windows 10 feature updates for up to days.
With May Update, to simplify the Windows Update experience and prevent confusion, Microsoft removed the defer feature update setting for users running Pro, Enterprise, and Education versions. While users can still manage update deferrals using Group Policy, Microsoft has recently mentioned a new Windows policy called ' TargetReleaseVersionInfo ' that prevents Windows 10 feature updates from being installed. The new option is only available for Windows 10 Pro and other enterprise versions and allows you to set a target version of Windows 10 that you want to use.
This policy also prevents Microsoft from installing a later version until the specified version reaches the end of support. Microsoft: Windows Autopatch now available for public preview.
